Mary Claire Satterly

In 2002, Mary Claire Satterly graduated from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and received an Art History minor from her junior semester abroad in Florence, Italy. Mary Claire, known by many as “MC,” passed away in 2008 after a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Even while in the hospital undergoing tests and treatments, MC kept her spirits high. She had a zest for life, love for others and an innate goodness that lives on through her spirit. MC was adventurous and loved to travel. Her semester abroad in Italy was a highlight to her college career (along with Tar Heel basketball wins against Duke). Through her legacy and with the help of friends and family, the Mary Claire Memorial Scholarship will help fund study abroad opportunities that will allow students to explore the world, just as she did.
