Rotary Club of Charlotte
Rotary is one of the largest service organizations in the world with over 1.2 million members and 34,000 clubs around the world. The Rotary Club of Charlotte is the oldest and largest club in District 7680 and celebrated our Centennial anniversary December 1, 2016.
Charlotte Rotary is a club dedicated to actively fostering the three core values of Rotary; Business networking and fellowship, education through its weekly speakers, and community service both locally and internationally.
The Rotary Club of Charlotte Scholarship Fund was initially established as a Student Loan/Scholarship Fund in 1921 with a goal to provide a loan to help students with their high school and college education. By 1937, the Fund was in disarray and taking a loss. By 1953, the Fund had a net worth of $15,778.
By 1979, administrative details and the complexities of reporting to the government led to the transfer of the day-to-day operation of the Fund to the Greater Charlotte Foundation, now Foundation for the Carolinas. As applications for loans decreased, the Board concurred with the recommendation that the Fund be made a scholarship fund and would award outstanding students, chiefly from Central Piedmont Community College, desiring to complete their college education.
A partnership with the Rotary Club of Charlotte, Central Piedmont Community College Foundation and Foundation for the Carolinas was set up in 2013 to establish a special scholarship partnership/component fund whereby annual earnings in their entirety are sent to the Central Piedmont Community College Foundation to benefit students enrolled in any program of study at CPCC.
