The Cato-Wiley J. Smith Endowed Scholarship

The Cato-Wiley J. Smith Endowed Scholarship is available to Central Piedmont students in any associate degree, diploma, or certificate program who have financial need. Preference will be given to students who have worked for pay, are working for pay, or who have worked or are working without pay in community service.

In memory of Wiley J. Smith (1907-1965), who was a member of the Board of Directors of The Cato Corporation from 1946-1965, this scholarship program was established in 1998. Wiley J. Smith was one of the five investors who helped Wayland H. Cato, Sr. start the company in 1946.
